LGBTQIA2S+ & DEI Oral Health Workshop

Individuals identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, agender/asexual/ally or other (LGBTQIA2S+) have historically struggled with access to oral health care. While public health efforts increasingly focus on reducing health disparities and increasing access to care, many areas still lack dental health equity for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals.

In this course the instructor will review LGBTQIA2S+ & DEI principles and best practices. Attendees will also have the opportunity to work in groups to brainstorm, share ideas and discuss best practices for inclusive and equitable oral health.

Objectives:

  • Review LGBTQIA2S+ and DEI concepts and terminology
  • Provide inclusive and equitable policies and practices to support LGBTQIA2S+ patientsDevelop LGBTQIA2S+ and DEI best practices to apply in your practice

However, there are a number of economic factors today that are threatening the way our practices have traditionally operated. With the looming threats of increased competition and decreasing revenue, dentists will benefit from learning how to think like a CEO. In this lecture we will learn about and use popular management models to re-imagine our businesses. Participants discuss specific strategies for their own practices.

Learning to Lead – 5 Stars of Leadership

As professionals, we are all expected to be effective leaders. But where do we learn those skills? It certainly is not in the dental school curriculum. All-star leadership of a team can be learned and not simply by trial and error or role modeling others, (including bad behavior). This course will help prepare you to be an effective leader, understand your individual style, think strategically, manage the team more effectively with less stress, and deal with inevitable conflict among team members without losing sleep at night!
