Overcoming Adversity: The Elizabeth Smart Story

Elizabeth Smart's story is one of the most followed child abduction cases of our time. For nine months, her captors controlled her by threatening to kill her and her family if she tried to escape. Fortunately, police were able to reunite her and her family.
 
Through this traumatic experience, Smart became an advocate for change related to child abduction, recovery programs, and national legislation. She testified before her captor and the world about the private nightmare she suffered.

She is currently involved in the Elizabeth Smart Foundation, and she has helped promote the National AMBER Alert, the Adam Walsh Child Protection & Safety Act, and other safety legislation to help prevent abductions. She also serves as a news correspondent for ABC News.

Smart's example is a daily demonstration that there is life after a tragic event and that your past does not have to dictate your future.

Are you wondering how to entertain your children during Yankee? Whether you are attending classes or perusing the Exhibit Hall, Parents in a Pinch, Inc. is there for you—offering on-site childcare. Children can choose from a wide variety of organized activities, arts and crafts, toys, books, and games. The childcare providers are background checked, trained in childhood health and safety, and are enthusiastic, creative, and energetic. Their experience, expertise and program planning skills always make the day both fun and safe. Walk-ins allowed if space permits; pre-registration is encouraged. Subject to cancelation if sufficient enrollment is not achieved.
