Unfortunately for endodontists, even with the best treatment and latest technology, a certain percentage of cases will still fail and require retreatment. Case selection and reasons why certain cases fail, as well as our own limitations in trying to provide heroics will be discussed. The use of the latest generation of ultrasonic tips and 3D XP instruments will be shown, as well as a new series of instruments designed specifically for removal of separated instruments.

  • Understand the reasons for endodontic failure
  • Recognize one’s limitations and possible complications with retreatment
  • Explain proper armamentarium for successful retreatments
  • Describe techniques for separated file and post removal
  • Review treatment planning surgical retreatment
