Using a series of real case studies and also responding to questions and scenarios from the audience, the panel of presenters will discuss key patient risk management principles to avoid Board complaints and litigation.

  • Determine how patient selection plays an important role in meeting the standard of care
  • List techniques for early resolution of patient complaints
  • Learn what behaviors are effective in communicating with difficult patients
  • Review how patient noncompliance can lead to malpractice allegations
  • Understand how cultural or health literacy issues might manifest as inappropriate behaviors and how to effectively navigate those situations
  • Discuss the importance of documentation in dealing with difficult patients
  • Identify what behaviors are sufficient to terminate the dentist-patient relationship and how to dismiss patients without abandoning them
  • Describe the ethical principles and professional obligations in dentistry
