Ethical considerations must remain at the forefront of the dynamic landscape of artificial and augmented intelligence (AI) in dentistry to ensure responsible integration of AI in the dental profession. Panelists will share their expertise on current clinical and non-clinical applications of AI in dentistry, how AI algorithms are trained and deployed, and ways that AI intersects with our ethical principles as outlined by the American College of Dentists Ethics Handbook and American Dental Association Principles of Ethics and Code of Professional Conduct. Additionally, panelists will discuss strategies for upholding ethical standards with continued innovation and increasing utilization of AI in dental practice.

Speakers

After this course attendees will be able to:

  • Compare current clinical and non-clinical applications of AI (Artificial Intelligence) in dentistry
  • Review the American College of Dentists Ethics Handbook and American Dental Association Principles of Ethics and Code of Professional Conduct and identify how AI utilization applies to each of the 5 principles discussed
  • Identify how AI algorithms are trained, tested and monitored and ethical considerations with algorithm development including transparency, bias, data privacy and security
  • Recognize the implications of AI use on patient trust in the dental practice 
  • Discuss future AI innovation and how we can work to ensure transparency and ethical integration of AI in dentistry
