This course aims to empower dentists and their team with the knowledge and skills needed to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Attendees will learn about the unique oral health challenges faced by individuals with IDD and explore adaptive techniques to optimize patient comfort and care. This course provides perspectives from both the provider and patient / caregiver and features a unique opportunity to learn directly from those with lived experience to achieve better treatment outcomes and increased patient satisfaction. The course will review effective communication strategies to establish trusting relationships with patients and their caregivers. By the end of the course, dentists and their teams will be equipped with the necessary skills, tools, and empathetic mindset to create a compassionate and accommodating environment that ensures a positive dental experience for all patients. All members of the dental team are welcome to attend.
