This course is designed to address the key factors which determine successful soft tissue grafting. The indications, techniques for surgical treatment based upon the need to re-establish esthetics, restore a functional attachment and eliminate hypersensitivity will be covered. Free gingival grafts are indicated for increasing the zone of keratinized attached tissue in sites of deficiency and for the elimination of prominent frenum pulls. This technique however has it’s limitations particularly with regards to donor site morbidity and unpredictable color. Today’s patients are demanding enhanced esthetic results and the connective tissue graft has gained considerable popularity incorporating positive features of the free gingival graft however with considerably reduced donor site morbidity and a good color match.
