Dental assistants (DAs) play a valuable role in community health center dental clinics. Due to a shortage of dental assistants and challenges with recruiting DAs to community health center positions, on the job training programs have been implemented in order to encourage more individuals to seek DA positions without previous experience. This course will discuss how Caring Health Center in Springfield Massachusetts has developed a DA on the job training program. The instructors will review challenges health centers face in recruiting DAs, how health centers can implement a DA on the job training and how Caring Health Center has expanded their program into a learning institute to train each cohort of DAs.
