America is aging and fast. Do we as dentists have what it takes to face the challenges of longevity and its repercussions on the oral cavity? Truth be told, we are all going to be practicing geriatric dental medicine before we know it. This course will highlight why we need to embrace this practice as soon as possible, the dos and don'ts of treating older adults, and how to successfully achieve this paradigm shift in clinical practice.

Speakers

After this course attendees will be able to:

  • Understand the older adult population and their rising oral health needs
  • Modify existing clinical protocols and infrastructure to accommodate the older adult patient
  • Discuss how to shift focus from 'reactive' care to 'preventive' care
  • Evaluate emergency scenarios in the management of dental treatment failures in medically compromised older adults
