A primer on what parents need to hear and what the doctor and staff members need to teach at the first and subsequent visits regarding the science behind keeping your child caries free. Discussions of diet, frequency and food and its effect on the oral biome are explored. We’ll look at the alphabet soup of alternative treatments including MID, CTR and NCTR for primary teeth during this period of increased decay and decreased parenting. A review of handpiece use, pulp temperature changes, alternative treatments for pulp treatment and restorative dentistry for maximum efficiency, biocompatibility and minimal aerosol. Finally we’ll look at anesthesia and pain control techniques for children.

After this course attendees will be able to:
- Explain how to keep a child caries free through diet control and chemotherapeutic intervention
- Define and implement minimally invasive dentistry
- Learn that MID may not be pain free or the panacea we are looking for
- Discuss dental materials and their appropriate use in children
- Review the current concepts of light curing and how it can help even non light cured materials
- Discover the appropriate local anesthetic techniques for children
