Specifically designed for the new dental assistant team member, this course will familiarize your knowledge level of materials and/or techniques currently available to provide better care for their patients. Clinicians have often made the mistake of regarding the provisional as being merely "temporary" and thus may not devote adequate time and effort to this phase of treatment. The result may be the fabrication and cementation of an interim restoration, which may be inadequate functionally and/or esthetically. With increased demands being placed on provisional restorations, new materials, and techniques are being developed and some existing protocols are being refined to accomplish desired goals. Regardless of the method of fabrication, any provisional must exhibit knifelike margins, proper contact, contour, and retention. Attendees will have the opportunity to fabricate and trim their choice of provisional (single unit and/or 3-unit bridge) using a pre-prep impression technique during this course.

Speakers

In this course attendees will:

  • Review the appointment sequence for crown and bridge procedures
  • Discuss criteria for clinically acceptable provisionals
  • Differentiate provisional fabrication using block, preformed, impression, and splint methods
  • Fabricate choice of single crown or 3-unit bridge using a pre-prep impression
  • Practice fulcrum with handpiece while trimming margins
  • Utilize clinical tips for achieving margins, occlusion, luster, and retention
