This course will provide an overview of toothpastes, understanding the science behind the most common inactive and active ingredients, and providing the dental professional with the science to support why and how each product works. Of particular importance is the use of oral health products to provide therapeutic benefits, as the burden of preventable oral diseases persists despite advancements in the science of toothpaste formulation. Active prevention through the use of advanced oral health products can play a pivotal role in reducing this burden by preventing the onset and progression of oral diseases and the development of potential systemic health issues linked to poor oral hygiene.

To this end, this course will focus on the evidence-based development of a novel stannous-powered formulation that has led to the improved therapeutic benefits expected from modern oral care products. The value of preventative oral health multi-benefit regimens to ensure better whole mouth health outcomes will also be discussed. This course will assist the dental professional with assessing the needs of today’s complex patients and provide them with the ability to make the appropriate toothpaste recommendation for preventative oral health benefits.
