Research indicates that an overwhelming percentage of patients find dental treatment to be an anxiety-producing experience. At the same time, dentists and dental teams find it frustrating when a technique that comforts one patient backfires on another.

This course explores human behavior and the four types of dental fear. A method of quickly assessing a patient’s state and matching the patient’s need to an appropriate treatment modality will be covered.

Speakers

After this course attendees will be able to:

  • Understand principles of human behavior when a person is experiencing fear
  • Identify the four distinct types of dental fear
  • Appreciate the effect of a patient’s personality style and the intensity of the fear on the patient’s behavior
  • List the five treatment options open to dental teams to address fear
  • Match a fearful patient to the appropriate treatment modality
  • Develop treatment plans for dental cases with the patient’s fear in mind
