Implants in the Esthetic Zone
Implant dentistry has significantly evolved since its introduction in the 1980’s. Refined surgical procedures, advancements in biomaterials and implant macro / micro designs have led to early osseointegration and increase in predictability of survival rates. However, no longer, is the success of implants confined to the survival of implants. A successful implant is the one that not only has minimal remodeling and is stable, but also, is esthetically harmonious with the surrounding tissues. In order to achieve this, especially when working in the esthetic zone, it is critical to understand key concepts such as case selection, risk assessment and prosthetically driven treatment planning.
Maxillary anterior implant cases often require hard and soft tissue development. Once a satisfactory emergence profile is created, it has to be communicated successfully to the lab to recreate the desired contours in the final restoration. This course guides the dental team through the process of comprehensive evaluation, imaging, timing of implant placement, implant selection, and soft / hard tissue grafting for an implant in the esthetic zone.
- Explain how to assess clinical and radiographic of a maxillary anterior implant case
- Understand anterior implant treatment planning with respect to timing of implant surgery and loading protocols
- Identify the importance of teamwork and prosthetically driven planning for esthetic and long-term results
- Site development to create an optimum implant site with soft and hard tissue grafting
- Identify implant maintenance
The Crest + Oral-B grant has been applied to this course.
